Latvia

Since July 1 in Latvia there have been changes to the Immigration Act, in which investors and their family members (including those from Russia and other CIS countries from abroad) can get a residence permit for five years and on the free movement throughout the Schengen area. In order to become an investor one of the following conditions must be accomplished:

  • Place in the Latvian bank of 200 thousand lats (286 euros) in the form of subordinated deposit for a minimum period of 5 years.
  • Buy Real Estate in Latvia at a price not less than 100 thousand lats (143 euros) - Riga and other major cities, or at least at a price of 50 thousand lats (71.5 euros) - in other regions of the country.
  • Attach at least 25 thousand lats (36 euros) in the capital of the Latvian company and pay as a result of its commercial activity in Latvia taxes in an amount not less than 20 thousand lats (28 euros) a year.

Investors, who have received residence permit under the new law, are exempt from the need to live or stay for a certain minimum period in the territory of Latvia. Once a year, they will have to make a note in the documents that the grounds for a residence permit (deposit, real estate, business) are preserved.

After five years of residence in Latvia with this status can apply for permanent residence (permanent residence).
